Walnut Hills Farm - Orange County, VA
Historic Georgian Revival Manor
Since its construction circa 1880, the house has been enlarged and remodeled at various times to create a commodious, 6,000 square foot dwelling.
The bluestone front terrace leads into a long entrance hall, which separates the public and private areas of the house. On the left is the formal living room and a large sunroom overlooking the yard. The formal dining room is adorned with painted “Chinoiserie” scenes and connects directly to the kitchen.
Across the hall is a bedroom and warm, pine-paneled den. Connecting to the den is a guest suite, complete with a bedroom, bathroom, fireplace, and porch. Together, these rooms make a comfortable, private guest suite, while the den doubles as an informal family room.
A back stair provides private access to the upper floor. Here there are four large bedrooms. Each of the front bedrooms has its own, associated bath and its own walk-in closet accessible from the hallway. The two bedrooms in the rear share a bath at the head of the stair. Several of the upstairs rooms retain the broad pine flooring and each bedroom has its own fireplace.
Also on the property are a two-story guest cottage, numerous farm buildings, and 373 acres of land for crops and livestock. The long frontage on the Rapidan River and the panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains make Walnut Hills the perfect Virginia estate.
